Congratulations RHHS Golf!

On October 2nd, Boys Golf won the County team title vs. Marriots Ridge High School and Girls Golf won the County team title vs. Glenelg High School.

Cross Country

On October 7th, Cross Country competed in the MD XC Invitational. Boys Varsity placed 5th out of 42 teams. Jazil Khalid placed 14th and Varun Dhond placed 18th. JV Boys placed 7th out of 53 teams. Noah Levy placed 11th. Alyssa Mattes placed 1st for Varsity Girls.

Boosters Meeting and Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Join us on Thursday, October 12th for a Boosters event and meeting at the newly remodeled Ledo Pizza River Hill, one of our emerald sponsors. We will have a short Boosters meeting at 6:30pm followed by a 7pm social gathering. Please RSVP to Barbi at boosters-corporate@riverhill.org

Hall of Fame of Inductees

Boosters congratulates all of our inductees on their accomplishments and welcomes them to the Hall of Fame:

Matthew Stara, a 2006 graduate and soccer player who helped RHHS win 4 state titles. He was an All-met, all-state and all-county player.  Matthew was unable to attend Friday’s ceremony.

Erica Suter, a 2008 graduate and 4- year starter for the soccer team. She helped lead the soccer team to two county, region and state titles. Erica went on to play at Johns Hopkins University where she was named an All-American during her senior year.

Becky Paynter, a 2009 graduate and star volleyball player. She was named the Howard County player of the year as a senior and was named All-Met via the Baltimore Sun & Washington Post. She was All-County her junior and senior year, helping her team to a region title in 2008 and a state final four appearance. Becky went on to play at Johns Hopkins University and helped lead her teams to multiple conference championships. 

Kinsey Johnson, class of 2015 and outstanding softball player. She was named Howard County softball player of the year in 2015 along with being named All-Met via the Baltimore Sun and Washington Post. Kinsey was honored with the NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete award 3 years in a row. She was a three-time All-County selection. She helped lead her softball teams to one county title and two region titles. She played her college ball at Virginia Tech and was an ACC All-Academic selection 3 times. 

Matt Graves, a long time head coach and teacher at RHHS. Coach Graves has coached tennis 2000-2006, cross country 2003 & 2004, golf since 2005 and boys basketball since 2004. He lead his teams to the following championships. Tennis: 5 county titles, 5 tennis cup titles & 3 region titles, Golf: 3 county titles, 2 district titles & a team title in 2022, 3 individual state golf titles. Basketball: 2 county titles, 2 region titles and a state title in 2007. Coach Graves has been named coach of the year in Tennis, Golf and Basketball

Stephanie McClellan Team of Northrop Realty was the game day sponsor and gave away 200 t-shirts to our students.  Thank you to Stephanie for all her support of River Hill High School.  

Rival Week - Week of October 16th

Get ready for Rival Spirit Week between River Hill and Glenelg High School! Visit Chick-fil-A Clarksville and support our school. Let them know you are supporting River Hill before your transaction or by using code RHHS23 on the Chick-fil-A App. The winning school will be awarded $1000 and the runner up will be awarded $500 during halftime at the Oct 20th game.

Winter Athletics Registration Information

Athletic Registration Information: OPENS OCTOBER 2

Instructions for Sports Registration: DUE BY: Friday, November 11 (DO NOT SEND DOCUMENTS VIA EMAIL; FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS)

  1. Go to https://www.hcpss.org/connect/Links to an external site. *Do NOT use your Mobile Phone
  2. Login to your HCPSS Connect Portal (Parents & Guardian MUST use the parental login.  Using your students log in info. will not allow you to register); Once logged in, go to the menu on the left and click the bottom option More Options (Family File, Reports Cards, etc.).  If you have more than one student make sure you have selected the student from the drop down menu at the top of the page.) 
  3. Click on Athletic Registration on the right hand side Menu, select the correct season Fall/Winter/Spring; 
  4. Complete all of the forms: Parent Authorization Form, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Form, Concussion, please complete all additional documents…Do not skip or leave any boxes blank. 
  5. Physical Examination Form: Verification of an examination within 12 months of the tryout date for the particular sport must be submitted in each academic year of participation. Upload ALL pages of the Physical Examination Form.  Older physicals will not be accepted. https://www.hcpss.org/athletics/forms-and-guidelines/Links to an external site.   6. Upload a RECENT Utility bill (Dated September 1, 2023 OR later), it must be the actual bill.  Older Utility bills will NOT be accepted.  Utility examples: BGE, Water OR Cable Bill ONLY (Must match address the school has on file for enrollment). **No Cell Phone Bills will be accepted** 

Common Errors:

  • File size may be too big on downloads. Make sure document is under 4MB
  • Just because forms have been submitted, that does not necessarily mean they have been accepted
  • AAM will go through to ensure proper dates, signatures, boxes checked off, address matches Synergy address.

**Reminder Physicals for Athletics are different from those used to register to attend school.  The Athletic Physical includes a Clearance without restrictions by Medical Staff.

Please, make sure physicals have all signatures (Parent/Guardian, Athlete, and Physician) before scanning and uploading.

**Returning Athletes-If a Student Athlete is returning from Fall to play Winter and/or Spring season and wants to use the fall physical, parent/guardian will need to click the checkbox (option to use physical on file dated) and save.  Otherwise, it’ll wait for a new one to be uploaded.  Reminder, returning athletes will still need to complete permission information and upload a new utility bill.

Academic Eligibility for Athletics

For high school, a full-time student earns academic eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities by maintaining a 2.0 grade-point average (GPA), calculated using credit or non-credit courses, with no more than one failing grade for the marking period which governs eligibility for that activity.

*All Students: 1st Quarter Grades are used for winter athletic eligibility

*What to Bring: Water bottle (large size), sneakers (basketball/cheer/track), wrestling shoes/headgear (wrestling), athletic clothing for all; be prepared for outdoors for track. Please contact your sport specific coaches for questions about equipment and scheduling.

*Anyone who is planning to try out for a team should be sure to check with sport specific coaches on schedules/details; once tryouts are completed, all teams will begin official team practices, scrimmages and then games.  Winter sports participants should be prepared to potentially play during holiday breaks as well. Refer to your coaches for scheduling details.

Friday Night Lights

Music Boosters Pie Fundraiser

Music Boosters is running their annual Thanksgiving Pie Fundraiser. Orders can be placed online at http://riverhillmusic.org/store through October 11 and pick up of pies will be at RHHS on 11/16 between 5-7:30pm.  

River Hill Dance Dept Workshop

The River Hill Dance Department would like to invite you to participate in our Winter Dance Workshop! 

When : Saturday, December 2nd 

Time: 9AM - 4PM (Please bring a sack lunch)

Where: River Hill HS

Who: The workshop is open to students in 3rd - 8th Grade

What: This is a full day Dance Workshop hosted by the River Hill Dance Department. Both the Director, Mrs. Byrd and Dance Company members will be teaching during the workshop!

What to expect: Attending dancers can expect to learn combos in various styles of dance, play lots of games and activities, enjoy crafts, learn about the auditorium, and prepare for their performance opportunity the following Friday. 

Performance Opportunity: Attending dancers are invited to perform in our Winter Concert on Friday, December 8th @ 7pm. (Optional) Those who choose to perform will need to attend our tech rehearsal on Tuesday evening. (Unless prior alternate arrangements are made)

Cost: $100

RHHS Concert Ticket: Each dancer who registers for the workshop will receive a ticket to the RHHS Dance Concert on Friday, December 8th at 7pm. This may be used by a guardian if the dancer is performing or by the dancer if they choose not to perform.
